Why Solar PV?
Solar PV or photovoltaic panels convert energy from sunlight into electricity. With an expected life of a solar system at more than 25 years it is an extremely cost effective way of generating electricity for your home or office.
The government is currently offering a high level of tax-free, index-linked payments for the next 25 years as an incentive for people to move over to solar power. With this in mind, it really is the perfect time to switch your energy source. The average return on investment over 25 years is between 7% and 15% depending on the size of the system. With numbers like this you really cannot lose!
From 1st April 2012 a D rated Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) or above will be required to qualify for the full Feed-in-Tariff rate of 21p for systems up to and including 4kW. T&K will carry out an Energy Performance Review upon survey and subsequently produce an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for your property.
To receive a full FIT from the 1st April 2012 domestic and non-domestic buildings will have to hold a level D EPC. A valid EPC will need to accompany the FITs application as proof that the energy efficiency requirement has been met. There are no transitional arrangements. Note if the building does not meet EPC level D (after the installation of the PV system) a lower tariff of 9p will apply.
If a generator can prove that it is not possible to obtain an EPC for a building that the installation is attached or wired to, then it will be exempt from the energy efficiency requirement. Buildings that are within scope of an EPC are defined by the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive 2002/91/EC, which defines a “building” as “a roofed construction having walls, for which energy is used to condition the indoor climate; a building may refer to the building as a whole or parts thereof that have been designed or altered to be used separately”.
Note if a building is outside of the scope of an EPC but is connected to a building that is within scope e.g. a farmhouse, then the connected building will need to meet level D.
Upon production of your EPC we shall advise:
- Whether your property is currently Grade D efficient and therefore attracts the top Feed-in-Tariff rate;
- Suggestions how you can improve the efficiency of your property, the costs associated with these improvements and the annual savings you could make;
- How the Solar PV system significantly improves the energy efficiency of your property.
This energy review and certificate is completely free of charge with every confirmed installation or for a one-off fee of £50 if you choose not to proceed with an installation.
It will be only be a matter of time before the UK’s subsidies are removed completely. With prices starting from us low as £4,250 inc VAT, and with finance available, can you not afford not to act?
Act now to secure your installation prior to the next subsidy cut on the 1st July 2012 (UK Government proposed cut of up to 35% to 13.6p per kW – Source: www.decc.gov.uk – 9th Feb 2012)

Other reasons to make the switch to Solar power include;
- Rising & uncertain fuel costs.
- Increasing environmental awareness and concern.
- Desire for reduced dependence on energy suppliers and oil and gas imports.
- Savings accounts typically yielding around 2% per annum. Inflation currently at 5%.
